Gusto has redesigned its Gusto Pro platform and revamped its Partner Program to boost the capacity of accounting firms to offer higher-value advisory services.

Gusto Transforms Gusto Pro Features and Enhances Partner Program to Elevate Accounting Services

Payroll, benefits, and human resources solutions provider Gusto has revealed significant updates to its Gusto Pro platform, announced during the Gusto Next event. These changes aim to transition accounting firms from routine transactional tasks toward more strategic advisory roles for their small business clients.

Gusto Redesigns Gusto Pro, Rolls Out Partner Program Upgrades

Redesigning Gusto Pro for Enhanced Efficiency

The newly redesigned Gusto Pro focuses on enabling accountants to manage payroll, benefits, and advisory services through a streamlined dashboard. This version introduces AI-assisted workflows, a multi-client assistant, and an intuitive interface designed to minimize the time accountants spend on manual tasks. According to Gusto's General Manager and VP of Product Management, Bridgette Haymaker, this redesign allows firms to leverage AI for payroll preparation while ensuring they maintain control over final approvals.

This revamped Pro platform is rolling out in an early access phase to select Gusto partners, with broader availability anticipated later this year. Key features include:

  • AI-Assisted Workflows: Automating fundamental payroll tasks, these workflows handle everything from extracting hours from emails to generating crucial reports. This automation helps reduce manual preparation time while providing accountants with the necessary oversight.
  • Automated Reporting: Gusto now automatically curates the payroll reports most frequently accessed by accountants, compiling them centrally. This streamlines access and reduces the need to source reports on a client-by-client basis.
  • Seamless Connectors: New integrations with tools like Gmail and Outlook allow for easier input of essential data, minimizing the need for manual entry and follow-up with clients.
  • Pro Gus: This AI assistant delivers quicker responses to client inquiries and provides visibility across multiple client accounts, promoting efficiency in workflow management.

Introducing the Multi-Client MCP

In conjunction with the Gusto Pro updates, Gusto has launched the multi-client Model Context Protocol (MCP). This feature enables accountants to interact with multiple clients simultaneously within the Gusto platform, which significantly enhances productivity. Previously, accountants had to switch between client profiles to access their information; now, they can operate across their entire book of business with ease.

Haymaker highlighted the advantages of this new MCP: accountants only need to link to Gusto once and can then access all relevant client data from a single conversation point. This allows for streamlined payroll updates, reporting, and client communication, significantly decreasing the time spent on routine tasks.

Revamped Gusto Partner Program

To further support its accounting partners, Gusto has made considerable enhancements to its Gusto Partner Program, which operates on a tiered revenue-sharing model. This program provides firms with strategic growth support as they expand their operations on the Gusto platform.

New initiatives within the Partner Program include:

  • Marketing Development Funds and a Partner Marketing Hub: These tools are aimed at boosting client acquisition through various marketing channels such as email campaigns, webinars, and social media promotions.
  • Partner Development Funds: Designed to strengthen internal practices, these funds allow firms to invest in AI adoption, operational efficiency, and client advisory services, matched with appropriate consulting expertise.
  • Exclusive Firm Business Consultants: Gusto has established a network of pre-vetted consultants with deep expertise in the accounting industry to provide specialized support in growth areas.
  • AI Agents: Introduced in June 2026, these AI tools include functionalities like website audits and pricing strategies, specifically designed to assist Gusto Pro firms in enhancing their advisory revenue.

In a notable expansion, starting mid-November, the Partner Program will extend its revenue-sharing opportunities to include 401(k) plans, enabling firms that integrate these plans to benefit from matching tier rates. Additionally, new member firms will receive a complimentary 401(k) plan for their employees for one year.

Conclusion

These enhancements to both Gusto Pro and the Partner Program illustrate Gusto's commitment to empowering its accounting partners. By focusing on improving operational efficiency and providing resources for higher-value advisory services, Gusto aims to foster mutual growth for both accounting firms and their small business clients. Haymaker emphasized this point, explaining that when small businesses thrive, the accounting partners achieve greater success, enabling them to pursue higher margins and expanded revenue streams.
